About TAECT

Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology (TAECT) is an educational academic association that has been promoting the use of educational communications as well as research and development of technology ever since its establishment in 1959.

 

This association is composed of professors, researchers and graduate students from universities and colleges in Taiwan with specialties in educational technology, information technology, and communication technology, along with some teachers from junior high and elementary schools.

 

On July 26th, 1959, the association was established and originally named the National Audio-Visual Education Association of China. Due to rapid development of audio media and educational research, it was renamed the Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology on March 18th 2004 , and it keeps on promoting the use of educational technology and audio communications.

 

TAECT has been promoting educational technology and audio communications.

Our mission includes:

 

  1. Studying  theories of educational technology and audio communications

  2. Implementing of educational technology and audio communications

  3. Applying educational technology and audio communications to teaching

  4. Helping produce materials and textbooks for audio media and computer

  5. Publishing books and magazines about educational technology and audio communications

  6. Holding activities related to educational technology and audio communications

 

History

 

  • The Rise of Audio-Visual Education:

In 1952, UNESCO came to Taiwan and established an office to help promote the audio-visual education in the country, and they sent Dr. E. F. Overend to be the counselor working with Mr. Chinh RenYan who was hired by the Ministry of Education to be his secretary. In 1953, both people opened audio-visual classes at National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU) with the name, Audio-Visual Education,which has been officially used ever since.

  • The Establishment of Sections that promote Audio-Visual Education

  • 1955, the government set up an “Audio-Visual Center” at NTNU to promote research and teaching in audio education on a national scale.

  • 1956, National Academy for Educational Research (NAER) was established, and the Audio-Visual Center was in charge of NAER’S audio-visual working funtions prior to this.

  • 1956, an academic seminar was established for teachers from elementary schools in Taiwan to research different subjects including audio-visual education.

  • 1959, “National Audio-Visual Education Association of China. Taipei, R.O.C.” was established.

  • 1960, a high-school-teacher-seminar center was established at NTNU. It provides high-school teachers with education or information on different subjects including audio-visual education.

  • 1960, National Education Radio was established.

  • 1962, Network of Educational Television was established.

  • 1966, an experimental and vocational high school for radio education was set up by the Ministry of Education.

  • 1971, Chinese Television System was set up to broadcast teaching channel, which was designed to offer curriculum accessible at schools such as  senior high schools, high schools of commerce, vocational high schools, junior teachers college, junior colleges of business, junior colleges of public administration, and some department from universities, etc.

  • 1986, National Open University was established.

  • 2004, National Audio-Visual Education Association of China was renamed as Taiwan Association for Educational Communications and Technology.

  • 1970, official regulations concerning audio-visual education were set up. Due to the efforts we put into the promotion of audio-visual education, the academy in Taiwan has gained a deep understanding of the use of audio-teaching to enhance the students’ learning outcome. The Ministry of Education took the advice from the academy and then established regulations concerning audio-visual education on 1970 May 22nd. It was to promote and apply the this education in the school and societal education. (The law was abolished on 1998 November 4th.)
